Don't know Perl that well.  Well, there are plenty of places on the web to start of places to start.  But there is nothing like having a hard copy guide that you can dog-ear the pages and pull out in your moment of despair. If you are just starting out, a copy of  Learning Perl is destined to become your best friend.  And if you are a little beyond that in experience, there are plenty of other books listed below that will broaden your understanding.

Personally, I have never liked Dummies books, but for those of you who don't mind being called a dummy, and enjoy the humor antics of Dummies books maybe this is the book for you.  The book provides a simple and straight forward approach to learning the basics of Perl.  It focuses mostly on Perl for CGI web applications which is good for those who don't want to be burdened with the other application of Perl.

This book, written by the person whom created Perl, Larry Wall, go way beyond the CGI application of Perl an into the language of Perl as a wondrous tool processing text, generating reports, and managing files and processes.  This book maybe a bit much for beginnings looking to learn Perl for CGI purposes, but is an ideal complement to Learning Perl (2nd Edition).
